THE BEGINNING

The Beginning occupies a profoundly personal place in my artistic journey. As my first oil painting, it stands as a symbol of origin. The work draws from Chauncey Ives’ celebrated sculpture Undine Rising from the Fountain, a figure emerging from water, embodying transformation and awakening. This painting became my own rising point, opening the path toward my true creative direction and purpose.
 
In 2024, during a pause in my practice, an unexpected tragedy struck: my basement was robbed, and all of my art materials were stolen. Among the losses, the most devastating was the damage inflicted upon this very piece. With constant relocations and the demands of work, the incident deepened an already challenging period in which painting felt just out of reach.
 
Yet this moment of loss became — unexpectedly — a catalyst. The damage to The Beginning felt like a message, a reminder of what I had set aside and what I needed to reclaim. It rekindled my dedication, pushing me to return to my craft with renewed clarity and passion.
 
Today, The Beginning stands not only as the first work of my career, but as an emblem of resilience, rebirth, and the unwavering call of art.
